Ever since Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at the MTV Video Music Awards, speculation has been ripe over what name she will choose for her baby. The star gave birth on Saturday 9th January in Roosevelt hospital by C section and announced the baby’s name as Blue Ivy Carter. This mix of traditional and modern is a nice touch by the parents and there’s no doubt that we’ll be seeing many more babies being named ‘Blue’ throughout the year. That’s not to say that it’s entirely original already, however, as Edge from U2 also has a daughter named Blue Angel and Geri Haliwell’s Bluebell was born far before Blue Ivy was a twinkle in Beyoncé’s eye.

If you say it enough times, ‘Blue’ does start to get a nice ring to it. It has connotations of the bluebell flowers or a rich, midnight blue colour. But what do you think of the star’s choice? Surely it’s better than ‘Apple’ or ‘Egypt’? As Beyoncé’s friends’ children, those are possible future play-date pals of baby Blue, so perhaps she will fit right in after all.
I actually rather like the name Blue, and think it is a sober choice for Beyoncé and Jay-Z considering some celebrity baby names. Take Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson’s child for example, Bronx Mowgli Wentz. Perhaps it’s the over-use of the last letters of the alphabet, or just the awkward way it sounds, but we have a feeling Master Wentz may opt to go by his initials or just ‘Bronx’ when he’s older.

So will there be lots of Blues out there from now on? Or is this just the start of a craze of babies named after colours? I like Green myself but it doesn’t seem to have the same ring to it. Maybe it’s because I’m not a celebrity. For now, I’ll wait until someone else does it first and copy them later. Perhaps model Molly Sims will be the next one to name her baby something unusual? The multi talented actress confirmed her pregnancy on January 10th and is said to be thrilled.

We all know about the trend in celebrity baby names that has been taking the world by storm, and is continuing as not only celebrities, but also the general public are choosing even more unique names by the day. Lets not forget when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their child Apple, or the latest addition to the to Beckham clan, Harper. There is no doubt that the baby name trend will continue, and it could even mean for you to beat the celebrities you will really have to think about of the box.

Our friends at Glamour Magazine, they have created a brilliant slideshow to show you some of the most unique baby names out there amongst celebrities, and you even get to see a photo to see if the name fits! You can find the slideshow at:
http://www.glamourmagazine.co.uk/celebrity/celebrity-galleries/2010/03/11/unusual-celebrity-baby-names

You’ll be able to see that there are various trends you can follow, but if you want to follow the celebrity trend then choosing a unique name is the way to go. How about choosing something similar to Evangeline Lilly’s Kakekili, now that is unique.

There is no doubt that celebrities have been naming their children with more unique names all the time, and this trend has been reflected amongst the general public. Perhaps we might be waiting sometime for what we’d call a ‘normal’ name being given to a celebrities child again, but it will happen one day!

Recently we’ve been hearing about the various trends in baby names, and how some people are affected by celebrity trends and believe this is the way that baby names will continue to develop, whilst others believe that classic names will come back. This is especially true after Hugh Grant recently named his little girl Jessica. Now comes another huge event this year, and the chance that it will influence baby names is pretty big, the release of the newest Twilight film. With the power that this film seems to have over the fairer sex, there is no doubt that our baby names will probably see direct influence from R Patz and co.

So will 2012 see names such as Isabella, Jacob and Edward coming to the fore? It has to be said that it is very likely. The obsession that has come alongside the Twilight series, both in book form and now at the cinema is one that has not been seen since the end of the Harry Potter series. There’s no doubt that during that period Harry and Hermione became popular names, and with Breaking Dawn set to beat plenty of Box Office records we’ll probably see a rise in Twilight baby names. Perhaps even Renesmee will become a popular baby name, it’s certainly unique!

Films play an important role in many of our lives, so if you get the urge to name your baby Cullen (yes, even though it is a surname!) or R Patz is just too irresistible that your child needs to be called Robert, then don’t feel too bad, there’s probably millions of people thinking just like you!

After a brief fling with Chinese actress Tinglan Hong, Hugh Grant is now the proud father of a baby girl. The fling was so brief that her neighbours had no idea that she was even pregnant, let alone with Grant’s daughter. Obviously the next most important step is the baby name, and Grant and Hong decided that they would name their new baby girl Jessica. It’s interesting that in this age of unique baby names such a high profile actor has gone for a classic baby name such as Jessica. Only recently we’ve talked about the various names that celebrities and people have chosen to name their baby, from the wild and wacky to the crazy.

For Hugh Grant to choose such a classic baby name perhaps sets a new precedent. With many commentators believing that we will now begin to choose our baby names from our favourite novels or plays, perhaps Grant has forced the issue on change, and we’ll now be choosing some of the old classics again. So next year Jessica might become even more popular, or how about Jane, Lewis or Michael? I suppose it isn’t too shocking that Grant would choose such a name, he is your quintessential British man, and for him to choose anything out of the ordinary would probably have come as a complete shock to us! The great thing about choosing Jessica as a baby name is it shows he is still deeply rooted in his traditions, and that is not necessarily bad!

Tracking the trends of baby names is interesting, and there is no doubt that Hugh Grant’s choice will definitely influence baby names over the next few months. So perhaps some of the more unusual names will take a back seat in early 2012.

So it may be a few months since we were celebrating the wedding of the newest royal couple William and Kate, but that does not mean the influence that they had over the country has not been felt in other ways! I suppose it was inevitable that after all of the fuss made during the royal wedding that baby names were going to be affected by the event. Recent studies have revealed that it is likely William, Kate and Pippa will all feature in the top 100 of next years baby names.

Whilst this may not be too much a shock for you, remember that Pippa wasn’t even a major part of this wedding, well, she was the brides’ sister, but she wasn’t getting married! This shows to us the influence of the press and how their feelings over the other Middleton sister has really influenced the public, so much so that Pippa is going to be one of the most popular baby names in 2011!

In a year when such names are going to be popular, perhaps it is also interesting that the wedding of the year might have influenced another choice in names. That is the popularity of the bible and it’s influence on names. Recently Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow named their baby Moses. In a world where religion is taking a backseat and people tend to find marriage as a less attractive option, it is really interesting that baby names have been influenced by such events this year. So who’s to say that they don’t play important roles in our lives anymore!

We have discussed the fact that celebrities have chosen strange baby names before, and how it has ushered in a range of unique names that we would all have questioned only a few years ago. It has generally been agreed that although some of the baby names were pretty ridiculous, they were all seen as unique and special. So it has to be a very interesting story when people have begun to realise that the names they chose are beginning to be a decision of regret.

So are Apple, Suri’s and Cruz’s parents thinking they perhaps should have chosen Sharon, Jane and Steve? Probably not, but a recent survey has claimed that around eight per cent of parents regretted the name that they had given their child. In fact around half of the respondents claimed that they had been influenced by fashion trends around the time of the birth. So no wonder they have regrets about the baby name that they gave to their child. I’m sure we all can’t think of anything much worse than two years after the birth of our child, sitting down and thinking ‘why on earth did I give them this silly name?’

Making the judgement between what is acceptable, unique and fun, and a baby name that you will regret within a couple of years is extremely hard. The most important thing is to name your child something that you like, but it’s important for us all to remember, don’t have any regrets!

There’s no secret to it, everyone loves hearing stories about celebrities, even the people who moan about it like having something to moan about! So what better to talk about that a recent celebrity pregnancy story that is bound to cause a bust up, and with baby names central to whole story.

Kim Kardashian is on course to have a huge problem with her sister Khloe, and it is all to do with baby names. Kim has recently been married to Kris Humphries, and the only thing missing in their apparent perfect relationship has to be a child. Unfortunately for Kim, it is no secret that her sister, Khloe, is also planning to have a child with her husband of two years Lamar Odom. Odom plays for LA Lakers and he has pledged to put a stop to the crazy K tradition. It is rumoured that if they have a boy it will be called Luke Joseph, but Khloe is trying to force her beliefs on husband Lamar by demanding that any baby girl is called Kayla or Kristina! No doubt the baby name argument is going to be raging in this household for many weeks!

Kim, whilst only being married for a few weeks, is already apparently looking at baby names and considering conceiving with her new husband Kris. It is no secret that Kim stopped taking birth control a while ago, and that the two are trying for a child. There is no doubt that the two sisters will be competing to see who can have a child first, and Kim has been looking at baby names, and who is to say that Kim and Kris wont have another K to add to the family.

Whilst Khloe and Kim are trying for a baby, they shouldn’t get complacent, because younger sister Kourtney is also apparently looking to have another child! So we might just see a big increase in the popularity of baby names beginning with K over the next 12 months!

It is something we have touched on before, and something that no doubt has become a far more common naming technique than ever before, and that is the cult of celebrity. How many of us have watched the news, flicked through a magazine, or surfed the net, only to find a million and one articles on the name of the next pregnant celebrities child? Pretty much every single one of us I’d guess, especially as we’re both reading this article right now! Celebrity plays a huge part in the society we live in, and it is not surprise that this now has more influence over us than the meaning of a baby name itself. This is something that would have shocked us not very long ago!

Baby names such as Pippa have suddenly become extremely popular, and there is no doubt that since the birth of Harper Beckham there has been a rise in the popularity of that name. Whilst the most popular baby names are still the classics like Oliver and Olivia, it may not be long until the latest celebrity baby name creates a surge to naming babies similarly!

The news excitement surrounding a celebrity birth means that it is no wonder celebrity baby names are becoming so popular, with people left guessing until the last minute the popularity of the name once it is released sky rockets. That being said, it might all change if celebrities followed classic trends, but this is unlikely to happen! Seeing the most popular baby names in a few years time could really show a difference in trend, and whilst the majority of us like to really think about our baby’s name, we are definitely being influenced by celebrities. That being said, the most important thing of all is that we choose a baby name we love, and one that our baby will grow up to love too, and there are so many choices out there!

Over the past few years we have seen a huge rise in the culture of naming your child something unique. We have seen the rise of baby names such as Harper, Apple, Buddy Bear and various other names that at the start of the millennium would have been ridiculed. So what has changed in society that has meant a unique baby name is becoming popular, not just with celebrities but also amongst the general population?

Most importantly we have seen a generation grow up with a lot of freedom around their choices, and ultimately that has been reflected in baby names. Whereas in the past remembering ‘old Uncle George’ might have led to naming your baby after him was a common theme, today, especially with the culture of celebrity, we see people trying to be as unique as possible. They want their baby name to stand out, whether that is a good thing or not is up for debate though!

So if you have chosen a baby name that is unique, you’re not on your own in that boat. It would be hard for someone to come out and claim your baby’s name is weird when all over the world more strange and random baby names are being given each and every day. And who’s to say it wont give your baby a boost that no one else has, I mean who can honestly say their name stood out from the crowd? Giving your baby that unique name could be just as much a benefit as a hindrance, so why not jump on board and move away from that attitude of ‘weird names’ and embrace the change!

It has finally happened, the world is going to witness the pregnancy of Beyoncé. She announced her news at the MTV VMA awards last week, and since then the rumour mill has gone into overdrive as to what Beyoncé and Jay-Z will call their baby. It is unknown when the baby will be born, but that does not stop us speculating! How often do we get the chance to discuss the baby of two superstars, and whilst this baby will be news for most of its young life, there is no doubt that this is the chance for commentators and the general public to speculate!

So what can Jay-Z and Beyoncé call their baby? Well we have had a hint before from Jay, in his song ‘Hello Brooklyn 2.0’ Jay raps: “If we have a daughter/guess what I’m gon call her/Brooklyn Carter”. Although David and Victoria Beckham might question the fact that they named their first born son Brooklyn as well! Or perhaps as a nod to her fellow group members, a daughter might be called Destiny?

This all being said, Jay-Z and Beyoncé may have a baby boy, and this opens up more possible names. Perhaps Jay will name his son after himself, and so is born Shawn Carter, as the majority of the public only know him as Jay-Z this might not be too much of a surprise. Perhaps we may also see, as a nod to both Beyoncé’s and Jay-Z’s performances at Glastonbury, them naming their son Michael. Michael Eavis, the organiser of Glastonbury Festival, is a friend of both artists, and it is widely known how happy Beyoncé was performing at this year’s festival. Whatever the two superstars use as their baby name there is no doubt that this baby will be in the headlines for many years to come!
