How Far Would You Go For a Bargain? Would You Change Your Name?

Here at BabyNames.co.uk, we love a good bargain. Who doesn’t love getting something for next to nothing? But, like most things in life, there are people who take it too far – just ask Mr. iPhone Sim.

A local electronics stores in Kiev, Ukraine offered a free iPhone 7 to the first five people who change their name to…iPhone 7. According to the AP, a 20-year-old man who was formerly called Olexander Turin actually did so, paying $2 to legally change his name to iPhone Sim (sim means “seven” in Ukrainian).

The cost of an iPhone 7 in Ukraine is $850, so Mr. Sim really did save a bundle. Also, there are no limits to how many times you can change your name in the Ukraine, so conceivably Mr. Sim could change his name back to Olexander, if he wanted to.

At least Mr. iPhone Sim changed his name and got something out of it, unlike the man who changed his name from George to “Captain Fantastic Faster Than Superman SpidermanBatman Wolverine Hulk And The Flash Combined” for no reason other than he felt like it. Or the parents from New Zealand who inflicted the name “Talula Does The Hula In Hawaii” on their daughter.

So, in summary…congratulations?
