This only occurred more recently, around the 50’s and the name Darren was most popular in the 60’s. Darin is also a surname, but it is of Old English origin. Its meaning is also uncertain, however it may refer to a ‘Dwelling by a Hill’. These two names are pronounced differently, and although the pronunciation of Darin is ‘DARE-en’ it may be found pronounced the same as Darren (DA-ryn) where it is taken as a spelling variation of this name.
