It is thought that the name Dixie ha strongly historic origins. The Mason-Dixon line was a borderline drawn up my Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon to settle disputes between British colonies living in America in the 1700’s. Dixie was a term used to refer to those living south of the line. This nickname then stuck as a surname and a forename. Its historical past is now forgotten and Dixie stands alone as a forename that is usually thought to be feminine.
