Greg Lestrade

Greg Lestrade (played by Rupert Graves) is a detective inspector for Scotland Yard and the one who brings Sherlock interesting cases for him to solve. While he is often frustrated by Sherlock’s methods, he very much respects him and often defends him from other police officers. He is one of Sherlock’s few real friends and was one of three targets that Moriarty threatened to kill in “The Reichenbach Fall” (the other two being John and Mrs. Hudson). Greg is a diminutive form of Gregory, and the name comes from a Greek word meaning ‘sentry.’
