Hamlet is the titular character of one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies. He is the Prince of Denmark, driven to exact revenge on his uncle for murdering his father. Hamlet is the English for of the Dutch name Amleth, which has its roots in the Old Icelandic name meaning “fool.” Hamlet, in English, also refers to a “house or dwelling.”
