Katharine Hepburn

Katherine Hepburn (1907-2003) was an American actress and leading lady in Hollywood for more than 60 years. She has acted in a range of films, from screwball comedies to literary dramas. She also won four Academy Awards for Best Actress, which is a record no one has beat yet. Some of her well-known films include “Morning Glory”, “The Philadelphia Story” and “The African Queen”. Katharine is an alternative form of Catherine, the more usual form in Britain. The name has many variants but all of them come ultimately from the Greek word ‘katharos’ the meaning of which is ‘Pure’.
