About Molly Hooper

Go back to names list

Molly Hooper (played by Louise Brealey) is a pathologist in the morgue at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. She is slightly awkward and has a deep crush on Sherlock when we are first introduced to her. Sherlock takes advantage of this by exploiting her feelings for him to get access to the morgue to perform experiments on dead bodies. She becomes one of Sherlock’s confidants and, because Moriarty overlooked her importance to Sherlock, she is able to help him fake his death. She eventually (apparently) moves on and becomes engaged to a man who looks and dresses much like Sherlock, but later breaks it off with him. In series 4, she becomes Godmother to Rosie, John and Mary’s daughter. Molly is a pet form of Mary coined in the 18th century.
