About Simba

Go back to names list

Simba is the main character in Disney’s “The Lion King” (1994). After witnessing his father’s (Mufasa) death at the hands of his uncle, Scar, Simba runs away to a far away jungle and befriends Timon and Pumbaa, a meercat and warthog respectively. They teach him “Hakuna Matata”, or the art of forgetting your worries. Simba grows up with them but eventually is forced to return to his home in the Pride Lands as Scar has terrorised the animals and they are running out of resources. He confronts Scar and eventually defeats him in battle, before taking his rightful place as king. Simba is a Swahili word for “lion”, which is a very appropriate name for the character.
