About Tessa

Go back to names list

Tessa is used as a name in its own right sometimes, but comes from a pet form of the feminine name Teresa which is of Greek origin. It may have originated as a name for inhabitants of the Greek island Therasia, however it has since acquired the meaning of ‘Summertime’. Mother Theresa was a Christian missionary who founded an order of nuns and in her lifetime was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
