About Wilson

Go back to names list

Wilson was originally an Old English surname but has been adopted as a first name, however it is still more common as a surname now. It means literally ‘Son of Will’ and would be a fitting as a baby name for parents who wish to traditionally name the baby after the father (e.g. William) but wish for some variation. It the name of an American leather brand, and in the film ‘Cast Away’ it was the name of Tom Hanks only ‘companion’ on a desert island, a Wilson branded volley ball which he painted a face on and personified by referring to it as ‘Wilson’.
