Last week we were delighted to hear the news that Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips, and her husband Mike Tindall had given birth to a baby girl. Whilst the news may not have been greeted with as much press speculation and hype as the other royal baby born last year, we couldn’t wait to find out which name Zara and Mike had chosen for their child.
On Thursday we discovered that they had decided to call their daughter Mia Grace. This flies in the face of the tradition that might normally surround royal babies, but continues the idea which Zara’s own mother had when she chose that name for her daughter. Mia was also a rank outsider when it came to the bookies odds, they had Poppy as a favourite, and Mia at 100/1!
Mia is an extremely popular name in the UK, and has slowly been climbing up our charts in the last few years. It will be interesting to see what kind of effect Zara and Mike’s choice has on the name, as last year we saw a definite downward trend in people choosing George after Kate and William’s decision. Grace is also a generally popular name amongst the readers on our site.
You never know, one day we could all be being ruled by Queen Mia – although it has to be said the chances are slim!
