About MarisaGo back to names list
Marisa is a variant of the more commonly spelled Marissa. Both of the names are derived from the Hebrew name Mary and have been suffixed with ‘isa’ perhaps inspired by names such as Lisa. The Hebrew meaning of Mary is said to be ‘Star of the Sea’. Marisa could be pronounced in two ways, mar-EES-ah or mah-RIS-ah. The spelling Marissa has an emphasis on the ‘s’ sound and so is more commonly pronounced as the latter, therefore Marisa is probably distinguished as the former pronunciation.
