Leander is the Spanish version of the Greek name Leander, which comes from the Greek element ‘leon’ meaning “lion” and ‘aner’ meaning “man”. In Greek mythology, Leander fell in love with Hero, a priestess of Aphrodite who lived in a tower in Sestos. Every night Leander would swim across the Hellespont to be with her.
