Go back to names list

Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) was an English actress. Her most famous film roles include Scarlett O’Hara in “Gone with the Wind” and Blanche DuBois in “A Streetcar Named Desire”, where she won Academy Awards for both performances. Vivien is the original form of the now more common name Vivienne. Both of the names are of Latin origin, but the form Vivien can be used for both boys and girls whereas the form Vivienne is usually feminine. The name is taken ultimately from the Latin Vivianus which means ‘alive’.
