About Aurora

Go back to names list

Aurora is the main character of “Sleeping Beauty” (1959). She is the daughter of King Stefan and Queen Leah, who is cursed by Maleficent at birth – when she turns sixteen, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die. One of the three good fairies is able to alter the spell, and instead of death, she would fall into an enchanted sleep that only true love’s kiss can break. The name comes from the Latin word for “dawn”, and is also the Roman goddess of dawn. Aurora’s parents named her this because she brings sunlight into their lives.
