Aladdin is the hero of the 1992 animated film of the same name, which is based on the Arab folktale, “One Thousand and One Nights”. At the start of the film, Aladdin is a street rat in Agrabah who has to steal to survive. He finds the famous magic lamp (with the all-powerful Genie) and magic flying carpet, eventually allowing him to win Princess Jasmine’s heart. The name itself is an Arabic one meaning “nobility of faith”.
