Wilson was originally an Old English surname but has been adopted as a first name, however it is still more common as a surname now. It the name of an American leather brand, and in the film ‘Cast Away’ it was the name of Tom Hanks only ‘companion’ on a desert island, a Wilson branded volley ball which he painted a face on and personified by referring to it as ‘Wilson’.
