BabyNames.co.uk Top 10 Names for September 2013

This was originally posted on October 3, 2013

We’re back again with September 2013’s top baby names. Across the year the charts have been changing month in month out, and no name seems to be a regular feature of either our best rated or favourite names. This month has continued the trend of classic names featuring in our charts without any particularly surprising names popping up!

As we usually do the first chart we’ll look at is the top 10 highest rated names on BabyNames.co.uk from the past month.  Only two of the highest rated names from August remained in the chart, with six re-entries or new entries.  Remember the ratings are out of five.

Name Rating  Change
Noah 4.5  RE-ENTRY
Charlotte 4.22  ↑3
James 4.18  ↑4
Jessica 4.07  RE-ENTRY
Alexander 4  NEW
Rose 4  NEW
Emily 4  RE-ENTRY
Jack 3.93  NEW
Oliver 3.92  NEW
Emma 3.9  RE-ENTRY

Noah topped our chart for the first time, after topping your favourite names top 10 on no less than four occasions!  Interestingly this is the first time that a boys name has reached the top of our ratings chart.  You can see from the chart that the classic names are still in vogue, and no real surprise entries are featured.  Emily and Emma also all re-entered our chart, whilst  Jessica had not featured since March.  Charlotte and James remained in our chart, rising three and four places respectively.

We also saw four new entries in September, with Alexander, Rose, Jack and Oliver all featuring for the first time.  It’s surprising that Oliver has not featured in the top ten until now considering it is a regular top ten entrant in your favourite names!  The new entries prove that the classic names are at the forefront of your mind when picking a name, and when the future Queen picks George it’s not a surprise.

We also keep you up to date with your favourite names too, these are the names you add to your name lists.  It’s likely that these are the names you’ve chosen for your baby, so without further ado here’s the table.

Name Change
Imogen RE-ENTRY
Jacob RE-ENTRY
Ava ↑2
Max RE-ENTRY
Archie NEW
Freya ↓2
Sebastian NEW
Amber NEW
Oscar RE-ENTRY
Jack ↓1
Oliver RE-ENTRY

Imogen topped our chart for the first time, coming from outside the top ten last month to reach the top of the chart.  Jacob also re-entered the chart to take second place, with Max, Oscar and Oliver joining in.  Oliver swapped places with Olivia.  We also saw new entries into our chart for Archie, Sebastian and Amber, whilst Sebastian and Amber might not feature in everyone’s favourite charts they can also class as classic names!

The two fallers this once were Freya and Jack, but they only fell two and one places respectively, very small falls indeed.  Ava was our only name to remain in the chart and rise, climbing two places to third place in the chart.  We were surprised that Olivia didn’t remain in the chart, it seems to be bouncing around quite a lot at the moment.

Yet again we’ve seen some interesting changes, and the classic names have continued to dominate the top charts on BabyNames.co.uk.  George still hasn’t featured, so perhaps you don’t like the Duchess of Cambridge’s choice?  See you next month with the charts from October.
