It’s a Girl for Russell Brand!

We posted about Russell Brand becoming a dad a few days ago, but we didn’t know if he had a boy or a girl. Now we can confirm that Russell and his fiancée, Laura Gallacher, had a girl and her name is Mabel!

Laura’s sister, Kirsty, also confirmed that the couple had a daughter when she tweeted: “Thanks for messages, proud to be an auntie for first time… well done to @DaisyPoppets & @rustyrockets. Sadly can’t meet her ’til am well.”

Both Russell and Laura have been rather tightlipped about the pregnancy, but Russell posted an Instagram back in July that revealed he was to be a father and also announced the birth during a standup show he was doing at the Nottingham Playhouse.

As for the couple’s name choice, Mabel is a wonderfully traditional Latin name meaning “lovable.” It has fallen out of popularity in recent years though, and didn’t make the top 100 charts in the last few years, according to the Office of National Statistics. However, it has lots of historical charm and this is reflected in the fact that it was very popular in the years 1904, 1914 and 1924.

Welcome to the world, baby Mabel!
