About AnnabelleGo back to names list
Annabelle could be a compound of both ‘Anna’ and ‘Belle’, or it can be seen as a name in its own right derived from the Latin ‘Amabilis’ which is said to mean ‘Loveable’. As a compound name it can be taken to have the meaning of both the names involved. Anna means ‘God Favours’ and Belle means ‘Beauty’, and combining the two the meaning could be along the lines of ‘God Chosen Beauty’. However Annabelle has more of a claim to originality, as its use has been found to predate the use of the name Anna.
