About MaisyGo back to names list
Maisy is a modern feminine name that has become more popular recently. It is thought to be derived from the pet form as either Margaret or the Gaelic Mairead. Both of these names are supposedly of the same origin, they come from the Latin ‘margarita’ which means ‘pearl’. Ancient Persians thought that pearls were formed when oysters came to the water’s surface to look at the moon, and a drop of dew formed in their shells which was turned to pearl by the moons beams. This romantic story has given the meaning ‘Lights Creation’ to the names.
