Joanne Rowling is a British novelist best known as the author of the Harry Potter fantasy series. The books have sold more than 400 million copies, making it the best-selling book series in history. The books were also the basis for a series of very successful films. Joanne is one of a few feminine versions of the masculine name John which is of Hebrew origin and is said to mean ‘Gracious Lord’. In France it was originally Johan and came to Britain in the 12th century. It since developed into Joanna and then to Joanne.
